Amanda Gorman Set To Perform Original Poem At The Super Bowl

Inaugural poet Amanda Gorman is slated to perform an original piece at the Super Bowl LV Pregame Ceremony.

The NFL made the announcement on Wednesday (January 27) and chose Gorman to help recognize three honorary captains selected by the league.

According to a report by ProFootballTalk, the three captains are: Trimaine Davis of Los Angeles, who helped get laptops and WiFi to students so they could participate in virtual learning. Suzie Dorner, a Tampa, Florida nurse who manages the COVID ICU at Tampa General Hospital, and Marine veteran James Martin, who helped get vets and their families connected throughout the pandemic by working with the Wounded Warrior Project.

The NFL also named Gorman as an honorary captain.

Gorman has stayed in headlines following her spectacular performance during the historic Inauguration ceremony of President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris on January 20. She became the youngest poet to perform at the event in the nation’s history.

Since then, her forthcoming books, The Hill We Climb and Change Sings, have both topped Amazon’s Best Sellers List, and she’s signed a fashion and beauty deal with IMG models

The game, which is scheduled for February 7, will see a matchup between returning champs Kansas City Chiefs and Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

The Weeknd is slated to perform during the halftime show of the game.
