Warner Bros. has not been shy about making history with its upcoming Superman film. First, the movie studio announced that best-selling author Ta-Nehisi Coates would write the script for the film. He is the first Black man to ever write the script for a Superman film at Warner Bros. Given his experience writing the Black Panther comics, Coates will have no trouble delivering a compelling storyline for this project.

“To be invited into the DC Extended Universe by Warner Bros., DC Films and Bad Robot is an honor,” Coates told Shadow & Act in February.

“I look forward to meaningfully adding to the legacy of America’s most iconic mythic hero.”

Then, the company revealed that it was looking for a Black director to lead the major motion picture. Directors like Steven Caple Jr., Shaka King, Barry Jenkins and Regina King have been rumored, but nothing has stuck just yet.

Now, it appears that Warner Bros. is looking for a Black actor to lead the film. Michael B. Jordan was the first name tied to the project, but he quickly shot down those rumors.

“I’m flattered that people have me in that conversation,” Jordan said.

“It’s definitely a compliment, but I’m just watching on this one.”

If Jordan does not sign on for the role, John Boyega has a few ideas in mind. He personally thinks Jonathan Majors or Regé-Jean Page should play the role.

"I want brother Regé as Superman. Or Jonathan," he said during a recent roundtable put together by The Hollywood Reporter.

"I want one of you guys to just go in there and fly. Just someone with knotted hair, fly."

Page just left Bridgerton and is now working on two films, The Gray Man and Dungeons & Dragons. Meanwhile, Majors is slated to appear in Ant-Man III, The Harder They Fall and Eternals. His ties to the Marvel Cinematic Universe would make it nearly impossible to star in a DC Comics film, but Page could very well appear in the film.
