Drake may be working on a new album and LeBron James may be preparing for another championship run, but they both have found time to expand their imprints in pop culture. With the help of emerging media mogul Maverick Carter, James and Drake are preparing to executive produce a new film called Black Ice. Directed by Academy Award-nominated director Hubert Davis, the film will examine the systemic racism that many athletes face when entering the sport of hockey. Furthermore, the film will highlight the legacy of the Colored Hockey League in Maritimes Canada and discuss its impact on the National Hockey League.

“Despite the hardships and struggles, this story is about resilience and how society views itself today while offering a path forward to a more equitable and inclusive future,” Vinay Virmani of Uninterrupted said about the film.

“I think it is more important than ever before for all generations, particularly young people of color, to understand and see the diverse faces who have contributed and shaped one the essential fabrics of our country,” Davis added.

James, Carter and the team at SpringHill entertainment will help produce the film alongside James' other imprint, Uninterrupted. James, Carter and company are fresh off of Space Jam: A New Legacy and they are preparing a revitalization of House Party along with a limited series about Muhammad Ali at Amazon. Drake is no freshman in the world of film and television either. In fact, he got his start as a star in the teen drama, Degrassi. Today, he works as an executive producer on the popular HBO series, Euphoria, starring Zendaya. Meanwhile, Carter works as the driving force behind the popular HBO series, The Shop. Together, Carter, James and Drake hope to bring something special to a movie screen near you in the future.
