President Donald Trump dismissed a question about whether he would visit the site of the deadly aviation collision near Washington D.C. that killed 67 people.

“I have a plan to visit, not the site because — you tell me, what’s the site? The water?” Trump told reporters Thursday (January 30) at the White House, per HuffPost.

“You want me to go swimming?” the president asked.

On Wednesday (January 29), an American Airlines plane holding 60 passengers and four crew members collided with an Army helicopter with three people aboard while en route to Ronald Reagan National Airport near D.C. There were no survivors of the deadly crash, leaving 67 people dead. As of Thursday (January 30) night, at least 40 bodies had been recovered from the Potomac River.

Following the crash, Trump tried to shift blame on diversity hiring at the Federal Aviation Administration days after his administration banned DEI efforts across the federal government. When asked why he believed DEI was a cause of the deadly collision, Trump said “Because I have common sense, OK? And unfortunately, a lot of people don’t. We want brilliant people doing this. This is a major chess game at the highest level.”

The president said Thursday he didn't plan to meet with the first responders who rescued countless bodies out of the Potomac River.

“I don’t have a plan to do that, but I will be meeting with some people that were very badly hurt — with their family member, obviously, but I’ll be meeting with some of the families,” Trump said.
