Colorado football head coach Deion Sanders has revealed new details about his ongoing health issue.
On Monday (July 28), Sanders and his medical team held a press conference, during which they revealed that the former NFL star was diagnosed with bladder cancer.
Dr. Janet Kukreja, Sanders' doctor, said Coach Prime had his bladder removed after a malignant tumor was found. Kukreja noted that Sanders had been "cured" from the cancer and "beaten" the diagnosis.
“The process wasn’t easy,” Sanders said Monday.
Last month, ESPN reported that Sanders had been “ill and out of office recently” amid Colorado's annual summer football camp. Sanders declined to reveal details about his health issue at the time, but responded to the reports on social media that "everything is okay."
"I can assure you all that everything is OKAY and will continue to be so," Coach Prime previously wrote. "God got me like no other. I have so much more work to do to Glorify God so please believe God got me! I'm excited to get back to Colorado to be at home with my staff, team & all associated to our program. When we arrive back to Boulder you will be updated on everything."
Sanders appeared at Big 12 media days earlier this month, but declined to answers questions about his health.
"I'm not here to talk about my health," he told reporters. "I'm here to talk about my team."
Ahead of Monday's press conference, Sanders shared that he had to make a will due to his medical condition.
"I had to make a will," Sanders said in a video update. "That's not easy, at all, to think that you might not be there, but you want to make sure everybody's straight."
