A video of Vice President J.D. Vance telling supporters to “vote against the crazy leadership in Washington, D.C.” is going viral, with critics pointing out Republicans currently control the White House and Congress.
According to The Daily Beast, Vance spoke to workers at a manufacturing plant in Kansas City, Missouri, on Monday (May 18) about the Trump administration’s economic agenda.
“I’m not gonna ask you to agree with us on every issue, because that would be impossible,” Vance said. “What I will ask you is if you wanna make America great, if you wanna protect your jobs, and hopefully build jobs in this beautiful factory, if you wanna make our streets even safer, if you want to rebuild the American dream for the next generation, vote against the crazy leadership in Washington, D.C.”
Vance paused as the crowd clapped before appearing to shift his remarks, telling the crowd to vote against “congressional leadership that will stand up and say ‘we care more about illegal aliens than we do American citizens.’”
A video of the speech quickly went viral on social media, with several users on X reposting the clip and commenting on the vice president’s wording, given that Republicans currently control all three branches of government.
The official X account of the Democratic Party shared a photo of President Donald Trump, Vance, and several Republicans in Congress gathered together with the caption: “The crazy leadership in Washington, D.C.”
“Wait, remind me who’s in leadership right now?” author and journalist Molly-Jong Fast wrote Monday.
