Rep. Ilhan Omar says President Donald Trump is using federal law enforcement to intimidate his political opponents after federal agents searched her Washington, D.C., home Monday (October 12).

In a statement posted to X, the Minnesota leader called the search an “attempt to target political enemies and weaponize federal law enforcement.”

She accused Trump of targeting her with “baseless lies and smear campaigns” for 10 years and described the search as the latest escalation in his “campaign of political intimidation.”

“I will not be silenced,” Omar added.

The search comes three weeks before the November 3 midterm elections, in which Omar is seeking reelection to represent Minnesota’s 5th Congressional District.

It also follows months of accusations from Trump administration officials about potential immigration fraud involving Omar’s family paperwork.

Last month, Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin cited an “ongoing investigation” that he suggested was examining potential fraud involving Omar’s family’s immigration paperwork.

“Something’s going to happen,” he said, according to The Associated Press.

The Congressional Black Caucus condemned the raid in a statement posted to social media, calling it a “sham designed to cast suspicion on the Congresswoman and manufacture an appearance of wrongdoing on the eve of the midterm elections, without any apparent legal basis.”

House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries shared a joint statement on behalf of himself, House Minority Whip Katherine Clark and Democratic Caucus Chair Pete Aguilar, calling the Trump administration’s raid “deeply disturbing” and raising concerns about the use of federal agencies against the president’s political opponents.

“Now, less than 30 days until the midterm election, his violent mass deportation machine has descended upon the home of a duly elected Member of Congress and her family,” the lawmakers said.

They called for transparency and vowed to pursue “full accountability” from the Department of Homeland Security and Department of Justice.

Black leaders, from Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison to Jonathan Jackson, son of the late Rev. Jesse Jackson, have weighed in on the raid, along with Omar’s congressional colleagues, including Reps. Ayanna Pressley and Summer Lee, among many others.
